NBC canceled “Medium” in May, and Patricia Arquette, who plays psychic Allison Dubois on the series, made her peace with the passing of her show. “I was OK,” Arquette said in a recent interview in Pasadena, Calif. “My feeling was, I would just miss being around everybody every day because it’s like a family. But I always try to look on the bright side, so I was like, ‘Oh, I’ll have a little more time with my daughter and this will be good.’ ”
But days after NBC let the show go, CBS, which produces the series, picked it up. “Medium” launched its sixth season last week in its new Friday time slot at 9 p.m. on WBZ (Ch. 4).
The new network and new night pairs the show with “Ghost Whisperer,” another series about a woman who is able to solve crimes with her supernatural powers. “I always thought it would make sense for us to be at CBS. And I always thought there was great programming that would make sense for us to pair up with. So I was always hoping that would be a possibility. I’m really so grateful about this,” she said. “I just think the whole night really makes sense.”
This season, viewers will see more stories involving the three Dubois daughters now that the actresses are growing up.
In an episode slated to air the night before Halloween, Arquette will be inserted into scenes from the movie “Night of the Living Dead.”
“I started out in horror films, ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street 3’ ” she said. “So I love a good monster movie. Here I am in a monster show. I’m the monster, but its exciting.”
The 41-year-old actress, who is married to actor Thomas Jane (“Hung”), comes from a family full of actors, including brother David Arquette, sister-in-law Courteney Cox, and sisters Rosanna and Alexis. David has directed a few episodes of the series and Rosanna guested last year.
“I really want Alexis to do an episode and, hopefully, Courteney at some point,” she said. “I love working with them. I love them as people. I love them as friends. I love them as siblings. I love them as artists.”
